To reflect that the Joint Committee on the Recognition of Specialty Boards (JCRSB) is now a standing committee of the Council, the Council determined that the name of the JCRSB will be changed to the Specialty Board Recognition Committee (SBRC). This change is necessary because the JCRSB is no longer a “joint” committee of the APMA and CPME and is now a CPME standing committee.
The Specialty Board Recognition Committee (SBRC) is responsible for recommending to the Council granting new and continuing recognition to specialty boards in podiatric medicine. The SBRC reviews applications, annual reports, petitions for continued recognition, progress reports, and other information submitted by the specialty boards within its review area. The Committee may recommend to the Council minor or emergency modifications in policies, standards, requirements, and procedures and recommend to the responsible ad hoc advisory committee modification of policies, standards, requirements, and procedures relative to the areas of responsibility of the Specialty Board Recognition Committee.
The composition of the Specialty Board Recognition Committee includes two representatives of the APMA House of Delegates to be elected by the House, at least three representatives of the Council to be appointed by the Council, one representative of the public to be selected by the Council, one representative from the health care community (e.g., hospitals, managed care agencies, HMOs, etc.) to be selected by the Council, one psychometrician to be selected by the Council, and at least one practitioner or residency director that should hold certification from both recognized boards to be selected by the Council. The members of the Committee (excluding those elected by the House of Delegates) are appointed by the Council chair and confirmed by the Council.
